Ventoring

An evaluation of a London-based intensive mentoring programme for young men

About

Project Lead: Kate Tobin, MRes

Working with Men is a charity based in London that commissioned DSRU to undertake a two-year evaluation of their Ventoring service. The Ventoring team supports young men living in areas of high deprivation in London who are involved with, or at risk of becoming involved with, anti-social behaviour and crime.

The Ventoring team work with young men on a 1:1 basis and in groups to help them move towards positive destinations such as training and employment. The project involves helping the Ventoring service to develop a robust evidence base and move further along the innovation to proven impact pipeline.

Our role

The evaluation involves capacity building in evaluation methods with Ventoring staff and the co-production of an approach that is fit-for-purpose. It focuses on refining Ventorings logic model through workshops with staff, and in-depth interviews with young people and key stakeholders.

The interviews also explore young people’s experiences and journey through the project and relationship with the Ventoring team. The review and refinement of Ventorings logic model involves identifying suitable and reliable instruments that could function as pre- and post- measures in the future.
